DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

Governor George Pataki recently signed a bill into law that makes it a violation of

Vehicle and Traffic Law section 1192(2) for a person to operate a motor vehicle while

such person has .08 per centum or more by weight of alcohol in such person's blood.

THIS NEW STANDARD TOOK EFFECT JULY 1, 2003

This new standard is in response to extensive research conducted by the National Highway Safety Institute into the significant increases in automobile accidents where the driver is under the influence of what was once thought to be only minor levels of alcohol.  For a detailed document on these findings check out the website for the

NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY INSTITUTE
